Soviet vessel’s description
Sir,—ls there a total inability of New Zealand journalism to get the simplest fact about the Soviet Union correct, or is it a deliberate policy? In the Press Association report of the rescue of New Zealand yachtsmen by the Soviet trawler Grafit (May 25) the vessel is described as a research ship. The Grafit is an ordinary Soviet fishing trawler that departed from Lyttelton on May 21, on its return to Nakhodka, as reported in “The Press” shipping news of that day. By no stretch of the imagination could the Grafit be described as a research ship—it is simply a fishing vessel.—Yours, etc., M. CREEL. May 25, 1984.
