Diver qualifies for L.A.

PA Dunedin The Otago diver. Garry Lamb, looks set to earn a place in the New Zealand Olympic Games team after successfully competing in an international meeting in Texas. Lamb rang his father, Mr Dick Lamb, in Dunedin last evening to say that he had just broken the Olympic qualifying standard for springboard diving. He had been competing with divers from six other countries

at a meeting in Woddlands Texas, when he scored 536 8 points in the event. The Olympic qualifying standard is 530 points “We would like to think he will be assured of a place in the team," an elated Mr Lamb said. His 23-year-old-son had until the end of the month to qualify for a place in the Olympic team. According to Dick Smith, his American diving coach. “Gary is diving very well,", Mr Lamb said.
