AMP tops billion?
NZPA-AAP Sydney The AMP Society has recorded Australia’s first billiondollar profit, according to figures released yesterday by the magazine, "Australian Business." The magazine says its analysts have calculated that AMP made a profit of SAustl.4 billion last year. Another insurance company, the merged National Mutual-T and G group, recorded a profit of
sAust6Bo million. “Australian business" says this puts both insurance groups well ahead of BHP, which is Australia’s largest company in terms of assets. The magazine also released details of its list of Australia's top 500 companies — ranking companies on revenue. Topping the list is the national retail chain. G. J. Coles, with sales of $4.7 billion, followed by Westpac and BHP.
