Mistakes in trial budgets
PA Wellington The director of the New Zealand Party. Mr Charles Begg, said yesterday that the sample budget figures in the party's economic policy statement contain some errors. Investigation had revealed a computer input mistake, he said. Originally the party proposed running five consecutive years of hypothetical budgets. Figures were fed in based upon certain reasonable assumptions. Later the policy committee opted to run just two consecutive years as being more relevant. "Regrettably it has now been discovered that some fourth and fifth-year figures were included arising from last-minute printing pressure to meet the deadline.' Mr Begg said While the draft budgets had to be corrected, the main tax and other proposals remained sound and party policy, he said. However, new budgetary figures were now being prepared for release soon.
