Under-grade wheat loaded

Cereal Exports New Zealand, marketing agent for the non-milling grade wheat pool for United Wheat Growers, has begun loading wheat into containers for shipment to the North Island.

The under-grade wheat will be used in the stock food industry. Mr Jack Hartley, chairman of Cereal Exports, said that shipping in containers appeared to be the most economical method of transporting wheat to Auckland.

Supplies of non-milling grade wheat were being consolidated at grain merchants’ stores and loaded into containers, said Mr Hartley. Wheat was being drawn from districts near Christchurch first, leaving wheat from the Timaru district to be shipped later.

Deliveries to the North Island would continue until December, said Mr Hartley. Some growers would soon be advised of a tonnage of non-milling wheat required for a local provender mill in August and September. Mr Hartley said that Cereal Exports hoped to arrange a cargo of nonmilling wheat for export.
