Gas production threatened
PA New Plymouth The threat to gas production in Taranaki increased yesterday when the Engineers’ Union gave notice of strike action on the Maui platform and at the Oaonui gas production station. The move follows a Labourers’ Union notice of a five-day strike from Mon-
day to press for negotiations over conditions of employment.
The union’s assistant district secretary, Mr Brian Evans, said in New Plymouth yesterday that the notice was in anticipation of the company using nonunion supervisory staff to do the work of labourers.
