Passive Prince set for Masterton win
Special correspondent Wellington The Trentham winner, Passive Prince, looks set to continue on his winning way when he tackles the J. A. Betts Handicap the first leg of the Masterton Racing Club’s meeting T.A.B. double tomorrow. Passive Prince, after having no luck at all in the running in the Gloaming Stakes on the first day, improved to win the Holyoake Handicap on the final day. Hardly over-raced at five, he looks above average and with the field in the Betts far from strong, he should manage his 55.5 kg without bother. The top weight, Tredici,
and Otaki galloper, Peak, look the best of the others. Last year Tredici won the Betts Handicap with 55.5 kg and he showed his readiness with a good run for third in the Foxton Cup last week. Peak had a couple of races at Trentham. He was a close second in Bidston Hill’s Gloaming Stakes and was favourite when sixth in the Holyoake on the second day. Fantastic with only a half kilo above the race minimum, looks a fair prospect, and Prenora was well backed at Foxton when beaten. She is due another chance. Club Royale’s form gives him some chance in this one, and the consistent
Pacific Charger and Tomsk will be chances if they run. The second leg will be held on the Rosswood Mile a race for class 3 gallopers. Strategy, the top weight, resumes. He last raced at the Wellington Cup meeting and his class will take him a long way toward success.
Under the Clock, a stablemate of Tredici, looked in good form last term and in one race since October, was third at Trentham two weeks ago.
Colman is a last-start winner. Quickfire, Fri, Giveaway, Quaypoint and Galway Har all have good form to back their chances. Winter Prince, which raced last
year at three in Australia, will be an interesting runner as he makes his New Zealand debut.
