American stallion for Middlepark

Special correspondent Auckland Triumphal March, an American-bred six-year-old, will arrive in New Zealand from Australia tomorrow to stand next season at Middlepark Stud, Cambridge. The horse, a chestnut, by Avatar, will go to stud in the interests of the international owner, Mr Robert Sangster, and the Adelaide trainer, Colin Hayes, who manages the Sangster racing interests in Australia. Brought to Australia by Mr Sangster expressly for a bid at the Melbourne Cup, Triumphal March showed galloping ability enough but ruined his chance of gaining much success through his attacks of race-day nerves. His best performances were probably for second placings in the Craiglee Stakes (weight-for-age, 1600 m) at Flemington, and the J. J. Liston Stakes (weight-for-age, 1400 m) at Sandown. He finished second, also, behind Trissare, in the weight-for-age Underwood Stakes, 2000 m at Caulfield.
