Last Saturday I watched a senior rugby match at Lancaster Park south before going to the under 17 international. In my immediate vicinity were many other spectators, including women and children, and it concerned me to hear the coach of one of the teams, who is a former Canterbury and New Zealand player, calling for his players to "make someone bleed." Surely this type of advice is not acceptable when given on the quiet, let alone when called loudly from the side-line. Senior coaches, in particular. should be aware of the example thev set.
