Stand or fall on resurrection
Alistair A. McLean: Professor Geering said that interpreting the Bible as the literal word of God is idolatry. Worshipping the Bible is idolatry, accepting it literally and applying it to life is not. Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection. New Testament believers knew the reality of resurrection, as well as the victory over death entailed therein. So did later Christians, such as Charles Finney, Wesley, C. S. Lewis and many others. As to meeting needs, Professor Geering stated: “Religious thought must always be evolving and meeting new needs.” Biblical Christianity, however, is able to meet all needs, old and new. Religion (and, apparently, Profes-
sor Geering's Christianity) is something done regularly. Jesus Christ is life.
