Situations Vacant Situations Vacant MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS BILATERAL AID: WESTERN SAMOA CHIEF WATER ENGINEER APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for the position of chief water engineer with the Department of Public Works based in Apia, Western Samoa. The position will be for a period of two years and funded under the New Zealand Bilateral Aid Programme. Qualificatons required: 1 A degree in civil engineering from a recognised university. 2 At least eight (8) years experience in water supply engineering. (It is expected that applicants for this senior position would be more than 35-years-old.) Responsibilities: The Chief Water Engineer is responsible to the Director of Works for the following activities of the water section: (a) Operation and maintenance of all water supply and seerage systems under the control of the Samoan Government. (b) Investigation, planning, design and construction of new works. (c) Supervision of staff In the water section of the Public Works Department (150). (a) Preparation of external aid proposals. (e) Administration of the water section, including rate collection. (f) Training of local staff. (g) Chairmanship of the National Working Group for Internation Decade of Water and Sanitation. (h) Management of annual expenditure of more than SI million. In addition the Chief Water Engineer will be required to work closely with and locally administer the activities of a joint venture consultancy consortium engaged in the design and construction of the major Apla city water supply upgrading project. The successful applicant will be required to take up the appointment on July 2, 1984. Terms and conditions of appointment, including salary, will be subject to negotiation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
