Narrow badminton loss

The South Island badminton team produced a determined effort before going down, 3-11. io a strong Waitemata team in the penultimate match of its North Island tour on Tuesday night.

The teams shared the singles matches, with Nigel Skelt giving the outstanding performance in beating the country’s third-ranked player, Jacob van Seim, in straight games. Waitemata, boasting four past or present internationals, gained a crucial edge by winning three of the four doubles contests. The best match was the top men's confrontation, where van Seim and Steve Wilson eventually squeezed home against Nigel and Feter Sxelt in a marathon contest, which lasted well over an hour.
