Rapa Eagle in favour for treble

Rapa Eagle, which easily accounted for a Cl field over today’s distance of 2000 m at Oamaru last week, is likely to be in demand for the Glencoe Handicap, the third leg of the T.A.B. treble, at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting this afternoon. From the same family that produced a smart North Island juvenile of a few seasons ago in Edward Charles, Rapa Eagle came from last to win by four lengths in a respectable 2min 36.4 s (2min 5.8 s mile rate) last week and with the ace draw this time, should

still be in favour with treble punters. The runner-up to Mighty Me in the Methven Two-year-old Stakes in his only start at that age, the Meth-ven-trained son of Huirapa, now four, is beginning to fulfil his early promise. Regal Mate has a strong form background for the Kerrytown trainer. Richard Brosnan, and handily drawn on the front line must be respected. Rosin was a creditable third to Naval Officer and Rapid Fella at Addington on May 5 and will have admirers, as will Haughty Bay, Monreith, Coastal Trader and Toris.

Tintern Fair, which has performed well at trials of late, ran up to that form with a fine second at Oamaru last week, and appeals for the second leg of the T.A.B. treble, the Sebastopol Handicap. The first leg, the Sefton Handicap for Cl and faster trotters, has drawn an open field with plenty of scope for an upset.

Count Blaze, the winner of two of his last three starts, deserves to be the favourite, while the chances of Dazzling Scot, Hardcase Poplar, Lord Alias, Roman Guy. Donna’s Choice and Laracon, also warrant consideration.
