Guidance for authors
Anyone who is preparing work for publication — whether as a writer or an editor — will derive much practical help from “Guidelines for Authors: Preparing Manuscripts for Publication,” edited by Paula Wagemaker. The book has been produced by the Government Printing Office in Wellington (52 pp., $7.50). For more than 25 years the “Style Book” produced by the Government Printer has been a sensible and thorough guide on how best to tame the vagaries of English to the printed page. The new “Guidelines” draws on that book, but is directed especially at the requirements of publishing. Wouldbe authors who follow its guidance should find their dealings with editors and printers much more harmonious.
