Owens buys Chch firm
The Owens Group has bought the total shareholding and business of Cooltainer Services, Ltd, a Christchurch-based company specialising in the refrigerated container freight forwarding. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the Commerce Commission. Cooltrainer Services, Ltd, was established in 1967 in Dunedin and now has branches throughout the country and in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. It employs about 50 people. One of the founders of the company and present managing director, Mr Brian McGowan, a former ship’s master, said that his impending retirement, the need for new capital backing for further development and diversification of the company, had been the factors which have
led to the sale in shipping and related areas.
Cooltainer Services will trade as an independent subsidiary of the Owens Group and the Cooltainer name, staff, and all existing services will be maintained. A new Cooltainer board of directors will be appointed shortly.
