Pay-out for milkfat rises

PA Hamilton Dairy farmers will get a pay-out of 350 c a kilogram for milkfat this season. A 350 c minimum price was announced by the Dairy Board yesterday after the Government’s approval of a 10c addition to the 340 c basic price last week. The board’s information services manager, Mr Neville Martin, said that only a few cents of the price would be supplemented from board reserves funds because of the record production season.

The 350 c pay-out was primarily from market re-

turns, he said. This year’s minimum price is 10c down on last year but Mr Martin said dairy farmers’ income would still exceed last year’s levels because of the increase in production. “It’s been quite a phenomenal production season,” he said. “We’ve broken all records.” So far this season 320 million kilograms of milkfat have been produced compared with the previous record of 290.9 million produced in the 1979-80 dairy season.
