M.A.F. head office moves

. The head office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Wellington is moving out of its distinctive old building in Featherston Street to the new high-rise Gillingham House in Lambton Quay during the next six weeks. Already a number of divisions have moved, including M.A.F. information services, animal health, agricultural research and advisory services. Over the next few weeks, fisheries management, economics, corporate services and the Directorate General will move. The whole exercise will be completed by the end of June. The lease on the old Dominion Farmers’ building had expired. Now most of the M.A.F. will be housed in Gillingham House, with fisheries research at Greta Point and both meat and dairy divisions in Dalmuir House on the Terrace. The new building has meant a new telephone number (739-410) for those wanting to contact groups or individuals in Gillingham House. Once the shift is completed both the old telephone number (720-367) and the new one will be in use. Wellingtonians who remember the moa on the stairs will be interested to know that it is staying behind—there are no sweeping staircases in the new and modern building to put it on.
