Youth remanded for report
Four charges of aggravated robbery, one while armed with a .22 rifle and the others with a pocketknife, were faced by a youth, aged 16, when he appeared in the Children and Young Persons’ Court yesterday. The youth, who is unemployed, was remanded by Judge Paterson in custody to May 31 for a psychiatric assessment report. The charge of robbery, when armed with a rifle, alleges that the defendant
robbed a Catholic priest, Thomas Richard Hunter, of $7.60 at the Papanui presbytery of St Joseph’s Church last Friday evening. The other three charges all relate to April 28 and allege that, when armed with a pocketknife, the defendant robbed three teenage youths of $5, $ll, and a quartz sports watch valued at $250.
Sergeant C. P. Healey asked for the remand, which was agreed to by defence counsel (Mr E. Bedo).
