Cancer girl will move to Australia

Anita Clayton, the Ashburton girl being treated for cancer in London, will move closer to home in late June or early July. Anita, aged 15, has received only half of her proposed treatment programme, and she will con-

tinue to receive specialist treatment in Sydney. Her mother, Mrs Mere Clayton, flew to London in March to join Anita, who had just had surgery for a recurrence of a malignant ovarian tumour which was removed five years ago. Soon after Mrs Clayton was reunited with her daughter Anita was readmitted to hospital with a tumour in her bladder. Chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the tumour were expected to take about six months. Her London doctors are pleased with the progress Anita has made, according

to her sister in Belfast, Mrs Maree Singh. “She is going home between treatments now, which is better for both her and Mum,” Mrs Singh said. Anita’s sister, Mrs Colleen Bryant, and her husband, who live in London, had to postpone a move to Australia when Anita became ill. The transfer cannot be put off any longer. “Both Anita and Mum are quite relieved about the trip to Australia. It will mean more support as Mum has friends there and my eldest sister lives in Melbourne,” Mrs Singh said. Funds are still needed for airfares to Australia and for the medical costs. Donations can be paid into the fundraising account (790122439630), at any Post Office.
