ANZ buys seat in futures

PA Sydney The ANZ Banking Group, Ltd, was expected to acquire a seat on the floor of the Sydney Futures Exchange from Dalgety Futures, Ltd, futures industry sources said last night. The ANZ general manager for strategic planning and economics, Don Mercer, told AAP that negotiations with a floor member were well advanced, and that the bank hoped to make an announcement within 12 hours. Mr Mercer would not name the floor member but

a spokesman for Dalgety Futures confirmed that it was negotiating with a potential buyer. Futures industry sources said Dalgety had improved its futures performance in the past two years, pulling itself out of difficulties to the point where the business was now a saleable commodity. The merchant bank, Citinational, which is also negotiating for floor membership with an undisclosed member, confirmed that it had not had any dealings with Dalgety.
