Fewer birds
About 1200 cage birds were judged in the Christchurch Canary and Cage Bird Club’s annual show, held during the week-end. There were 1225 birds in 16 categories, about 300 fewer than expected. It was not known how many people attended the show but participants came from as far afield as Wellington, Invercargill, and the West coast for the show at the Papanui High School, said the club secretary, Mrs B. L. Neale.
The special gold medal and diploma award from England, for the best breeder of budgies, was won by a Christchurch family, Mr John Johnson, his wife, Beverly, and their daughter, Lyn.
