Poll fraud claimed
NZPA-AP Panama City An aide to a Panamanian Presidential candidate, Arnulfo Arias, said yesterday that the slow count of Presidential election votes was a fraud that favoured the Government’s candidate. Mr Arias’s camp would reject the result if Nicolas ArditoBarletta won, he said. “If they want a civil war they will have it,” Enrique Rogers said. There was “no way” that the Opposition coalition would recognise the count by the 17-member National Tabulation Board if it favoured Mr ArditoBarletta. Mr Ardito-Barletta is backed by the military, which removed the 82-year-old Mr Arias from office three times after he won Presidential elections. The last time was in 1968, just eleven days after Mr Arias was inaugurated.
