Davenport, Norman win
NZPA-AP Singapore The second-seeded, Stuart Davenport, of New Zealand, beat Peter Hill (Singapore), 9-3, 9-3, 9-4, and advanced to the quarter-finals of the $U525,000 Yeo’s-Pepsi international squash tournament in Singapore yesterday. Davenport, aged 21, whipped the Singaporean in 37 minutes with a powerful mixture of long rallies, volleys and accurate drops.
A fellow New Zealander, Ross Norman, also qualified for the quarter-finals with a 9-7, 9-3, 9-7 win over Egypt’s Ali Zziz. In today’s quarter-finals, the top seed, Qamar Zaman, of Pakistan, meets Egypt’s Magdi Saad; England’s Gawain Briars meets Australia’s Chris Bittmar, England’s Phil Kenyon meets Norman; and Pakistan’s Maqsood Ahmad meets Davenport.
