Heaving Shoulders, flying Feet, Flashing Blades and whirling Pedals — Champions of the World compete, After all that Dust and Heat, We count the Medals. Weigh the Silver, Bronze, and Gold — All that Effort bears its Fruit. Some return with Wealth untold, Others, in their Loss consoled — Not much Loot! LA, yes! but Moscow, No! When WE boycotted THEM the Games Limped along, four Years ago — Once again the Olympic Flame’s A Flicker, all those high-flown Aims Burn dimly low. Precious Medals — precious Metals! What’s the Bidding for this Heap, Golden Pots, and Silver Kettles, Bronze Pans — as the Market settles, Going cheap? Zeus, old Olympian Divinity, How do You like your Sacred Rite? Which tawdry, televised Vicinity Claims the celestial Affinity — ’ On your Left’ or Right?
