Hospital bedding

Sir,—l just cannot believe that the Canterbury Hospital Board is going to be permitted to import synthetic sheepskin, nor can I understand why there has been so little reaction against it. We complain about our butter not being fully accepted by the European market. We complain about companies importing South African wine. We would complain if overseas companies stopped taking our wool, but we are by-passing it for a substitute. I know about wool and about patient care. This is not going to save money. Uncomfortable patients mean that more analgesics and more nursing care are required. We need more liaison between the producers, manufacturers, users and the Wool Board. If sheepskin is not used, surely there should be a wool underlay. A Ismail co-operative could be set up

to provide this. It would give employment and use surplus wool. — Yours, etc., D. E. M. MURRAY. May 8, 1984.
