Shipping report awaited
A decision on the future of the Chatham Islands shipping link is expected to be made by the Internal Affairs Department next month.
A report on island trade which is serviced by the Union Steam Ship Company vessel Holmdale’ is being prepared by the department and will be presented to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Highet, next week for consideration. The chief executive
officer of the local government division, Mr Brian Jackson, said the report would include a recommendation to Mr Highet of the port at which the Holmdale should be based. ,
Submissions representing the interests of the ports of Lyttelton and Napier have been sent to the department as well as a submission from the Chatham Islands County Council seeking a trial triangular service using both ports.
