S.I. has badminton loss

The touring South Island badminton team pushed the North Shore side hard in the latest match of its North Island tour before going down, 9-7, on Wednesday evening. There was particular reason for the southern players to be happy with their singles form. They won five of the eight individual matches but fell down when the doubles contests began.

North Shore was weakened by the absence through injury of the country’s No. 2 ranked player, Phil Horne. In its opening match, the South Island had a convincing 15-1 win over Counties.

The only South Islander to lose was Alison Ross, who went down to Karen Phillips, the third-ranked player in New Zealand, in three games. North Shore 9, South Island 7 Singles.—K. Harrison beat P.
