Soviet oil find

Soviet geologists have discovered a field of high-qual-ity oil near the Aral Sea, in central Asia, an area previously thought unlikely to contain viable reserves, Tass news agency reports. It said drillings just east of the inland sea had produced a gusher of good quality petroluem and gas from 1200 metres. The Soviet Union is already producing oil from a region more than 600 km west of the Aral Sea, in the Caspian Depression, but Tass said that the new find was the first in the Aral region of southern Kazakhstan. — Moscow.
