Dear Sir should outclass his Oamaru rivals

By

G. K. YULE

Dear Sir, fourth in Imin 58.7 s in Norton’s Pan Am Mile in the autumn, should come back to winning form in the Jubilee Mobile Mile, a race which has drawn a disappointing field of eight at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow.

Dear Sir has failed in his two most recent starts, but before that he won at Washdyke and Hororata. Back to a mobile start, he should make light of his secondline draw and prove a class above this field.

There will be solid support to say that Dear Sir’s stablemate, Double Cove, will be the hardest to beat. He came from No. 6 at the barrier at his latest start when he won over one mile at Addington Raceway on April 21. That starting position is considered fatal in mile races, and it takes a horse of great ability to get into the money. That Double Cove proved capable of winning at the expense of Lord Hillas and Ansett says much for his ability. He comes in to No. 3 this time and should make a bold bid to extend his already sound record.

Ansett has been racing with great dash at trials since her rather unlucky third to Double Cove and Lord Hillas on Easter Saturday.

In that race she was late issuing her challenge and she was travelling faster than any of her rivals at the line. She is overdue for a win and could go close to achieving it in this event. King Aurea and Mytop Sweetie should be the pick of the remainder, although Winfield Kai has gone well enough at times to be considered as a reasonable place chance. Eiffel Lad, Rapid Fella and Young Boyden have all raced to good purpose in their latest racing. If they reproduce their best form they should dispute the finish to the second leg, the Les Webb Pace, which is also the T.A.B. trifecta race. Jbt: 3 Tab: OF Race 1 11.05 N. J.
