Music video contest

All secondary schools throughout New Zealand have been invited to enter a music video contest, organised by the Recording Industry Association in association with the Education Department and Television New Zealand. A spokesman for the Recording Industry Association, Mr Tony Chance, said the aim of the contest was to recognise and encourage young creative talent to achieve artistic and technical excellence by producing

a video clip, of not more than 3% minutes duration, featuring an original composition written, performed, and recorded by secondary school students. The prizes, for best visual interpretation, will be a TV receiver/monitor valued at $1395, a video recorder valued at $1795, a trophy for the school and a replica for the best visual director. For best musical interpretation, the prizes will be a synthesizer valued at $1495, an amplifier valued

at $lOOO, and a trophy. In addition, two video cassettes will be given to each of the 12 finalists whose music videos appear on “Shazam,” from August 14 to September 18. The best musical and visual directors will receive a cassette of the hour-long special, “The Making of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’,” and will travel to Auckland to appear on “Shazam” on October 2 and receive their prizes on behalf of their schools.
