Climber falls to death

An overseas climber died yesterday morning after falling about 300 metres from a ridge in Copland Pass in Mount Cook National Park. The Timaru police have not yet identified the dead man, who was aged about 30. A helicopter was used to help retrieve the body which is now in Timaru. The man was with a group of about three other climbers when the accident happened at 8.45 a.m., said a spokesman for the Timaru police. One of the climbers raised the alarm soon after.
