R.A.A.F. loses 4th Mirage in month

NZPA-AAP Adelaide A Royal Australian Air Force pilot ejected to safety yesterday while ditching his Mirage jet into St Vincent Gulf, west of Adelaide. An Air Force spokesman said that the pilot had ditched the jet after it had suffered undercarriage failure during a routine flight. Flight Lieutenant T. J. Mac Cormack, aged 29, ejected from the aircraft and landed on a beach just

north of Adelaide. He was picked up by helicopter and taken back to R.A.A.F. Elizabeth, in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. Last week a Mirage twoseater crashed near Darwin after running out of fuel while the crew was trying to rectify an undercarriage problem. Two Mirages collided in mid-air during exercises over Queensland last month and two pilots were killed.
