Wool up at Dunedin sale

PA Dunedin All wools sold well in growers’ favour at the Dunedin sale yesterday. Compared with the last stro.ig-wool sale at Invercargill on April 18, crossbred fleece was up 2.5 to 4 per cent. Crossbred skirtings were up 2.5 per cent, and poorer styles lifted as much as 7.5 per cent. Second-shear generally was up about 5 per cent, and oddments moved from par to 2.5 per cent. Crossbred lambs’ fleece improved 2.5 to 5 per cent, and second shear lambs up to 12 per cent. The official report said sales for the minimal offering of Halfbred fleece generally were erratic, quotations being steady on the fine-wool sale at Christchurch on April 13.

Main competition came from Eastern Europe, the Far East, Western Europe and New Zealand mills. The Wool Board bid on less than 1 per cent of the offering and made no purchases. The bulk of the offering was crossbred fleece and oddments, which made up 53 per cent of the catalogue, second-shear (28 per cent), Lambs’ wools (11 per cent), and Halfbred and fine-wool oddments (8 per cent). The wool showed much discolouration and was tender in staple, and included many cotts. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 299.29 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 6.9 per ’cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all
