No rest for Wren

Steven Wren, of the Sumner Club, might have little rest in store when he returns home this week from Calgary where he has been competing in the world junior squash championships. Wren, who has already won the Canterbury under--23 title this season, has been named the No. 1 under-19 boys’ seed for the Canterbury junior championships which begin at the St Andrew’s club courts tomorrow evening only a matter of hours after he arrives home. If Wren is fit and well for the tournament his main rival is likely to be his former Christchurch Boys’ High School schoolmate, Geoffrey Cotton, who is seeded second, ahead of Michael Allred and Grant Peacock. Justine Marriott, last year’s New Zealand under--17 champion, heads the girls’ under-19 seedings from Dianne Hartland, Dianne Steele, and Leanne Alexander. Altogether 90 entries, including several from outside Christchurch, have been accepted for the tournament, which will run until Sunday.
