General forecast: An anti-cyclone in the north Tasman Sea is intensifying as it moves quickly east. A north-west flow should spread onto the South Island ahead of a cold front now moving east over Tasmania. District forecasts: Canterbury: Fine; Moderate north-easterlies along the coast, and milder north-westerlies gradually freshening inland. Nelson, Marlborough: Mainly fine, but becoming cloudy about the western ranges; westerlies gradu-

ally freshening. Buller, Westland: Moderate north-westerlies developing; Cloud increasing and some drizzle developing by evening. Tomorrow: Some showers in Nelson, Marlborough, and Buller, rain in Westland, mainly fine in Canterbury. Extended range forecast until Monday: A cold front now over the Australian Bight is expected to be moving onto the southwest of the South Island late today bringing some rain.
