Sweeney Todd has strong record at Wingatai

Sweenev Todd and Prince Majestic’s half-brother, Rock Crystal, are at the top of a short list of fancies for the Otago Hunt Cup Steeplechase at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting at Wingatui today. Rock Crystal emerged with the honours when they met in the Great Western Steeplechase at Riverton at Easter, running out a popular winner for the Wingatui stable of the veteran, Hector Anderton. Sweeney Todd was favourite for the historic Southland race, but he proved an expensive fancy. He was in with a chance close to home, but a mistake put him out of contention, although he was remounted to finish the course. Sweeney Todd showed easy mastery of the Wingatui country last winter, winning the Otago Hunt Cup and the Otago Steeplechase in successive starts by wide margins. If he wins today Sweeney Todd might be pointed for the Great Northern Steeplechase next month. Jbt: 2 Tab: OG
