Chantilly Belle in fast trial

Special correspondent Palmerston North

Chantilly Belle showed that she will not be out of contention for the Cuddle Stakes at Trentham tomorrow when she galloped in her best style at Awapuni yesterday morning. She recorded fast time for 1200 m and is at her peak for the 1600 m test.

Chantilly Belle has been in fine form lately and though the opposition looks strong she is expected to go a bold race for Noel Harris.

Chantilly Belle worked on the course proper and shaded Custom at the end of 1200 m in 1:17.6, the last 600 m in 395, with Chantilly Belle travelling with a lot in hand all the way. She was second behind Gold Stream last start at Otaki and has trained on since. Cuchulainn and Bidston Hill ran their 1400 m in 1:33, the last 600 m in 39s and there was nothing between them at the finish. Cuchulainn has a lightweight’s chance in the Gloaming Stakes, in which Bidston Hill has 57. He ran good races at Feilding and must have a winning chance despite his 57kg. The form runner, Love

Money, worked over 1000 m impressively in 1:4.8, the last 600 m in 38.25. She was just beaten in her.last start and holds a chance in the Miramar Handicap.

Gaimoss covered 1000 m in 1:7, the last 600 m in 38. She makes a fresh start in the Cuddle Stakes. She went well at the trials earlier this week but still has a tough task ahead of her. Double Header looked good running 1200 m in 1:19, the last 600 m in 40.5. He disappointed last start at Feilding but is capable of better in the Otari Handicap if he can strike a firm track.

Record Harvest and Magnitude ran 800 m in 52.6, the last 600 m in 395. Record Harvest has a chance against the maidens at Trentham. Magnitude has his next start here on Wednesday. He is one of the best gallopers at Awapuni. The Trentham candidate, Nukumai, covered the final 600 m of 1400 m in 40s. He is in the Gloaming Stakes at Wellington. Life Guard completed 1600 m in 1:55.4, the final 600 m in 425. He ran well at Woodville and should be hard to beat in the Karori Hurdles.
