Cocaine found in blood of dead singer
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles The singer, Marvin Gaye, probably took cocaine four to eight hours before he was killed, says a Coroner’s spokesman.
“A small amount of cocaine residue was found in Gaye’s blood,” Bill Gold said yesterday in reporting
on toxicological tests on the singer.
“This finding indicates the deceased used cocaine at some point in the past, but was probably not under its influence at the time of his death.”
Gaye, aged 44, died of two gunshot wounds to the chest in Los Angeles on March 30
after what the police alleged had been an argument with his father. The father had been charged with his son’s murder and is undergoing psychiatric tests in custody. Mr Gold said that Gaye's nose tissues had been inflamed, a sign indicating that he had inhaled cocaine.
