Power break in Cinch

A power cut in the Armagh Street sub-station yesterday morning caused only minor inconvenience to Municipal Electricity Department subscribers in the central city area. The chief engineer of the M.E.D., Mr E. H. Mace, said that the problem was in the protective relays but the cause of the cut was still not known late yesterday afternoon.

“It may have caused a few people to be caught in lifts but apart from that I have not heard of any inconvenience,” he said. The power was off between 9.02 a.m. and 9.12 a.m. Traffic lights in the city took up to 30 minutes after power was restored to be brought back into sequence. “Many sets worked inde-

a pendently for a while after n the power was restored but 1 we had the first series back i- in sequence after only five minutes and all the others i- working as normal within 2 half an hour,” a City Council traffic engineer y said. r Little inconvenience was e caused to traffic flows because the power break occurred during off-peak i- hours.
