Smoker plagues doctor
The National Heart Foundation’s medical director, Dr David Hay, who revealed last evening that he has been the victim of anonymous telephone calls and bogus advertisements because of his anti-smoking stance.
In an address at the launching of an A.S.H. group in Wellington, he said: “I hope your leaders do not become the victims of persistent anonymous telephone callers as I have, or find advertisements for tobacco packers placed in the local papers quoting your telephone number as the one to ring.
“Only in the last week the latest effort by my persecutor, who calls himself by the name of a well known cigarette brand, was to ring a local television company to ask them to deliver a set to my home. “Obviously, someone who is fairly sick, but I can assure the caller that those of us who are non-smokers remain hale and hearty and full of erergy to continue our work.”
