TV show payments cleared
PA Wellington The Audit Office has found nothing illegal in payments for a series of television’s “That’s Country” and the 1983 Telethon. The commission of inquiry into broadcasting had engaged the Audit Office to vouch for the payments. An assistant controller and auditor-general, Mr Stuart Keene, said yesterday there had been “nothing of much moment in an accounting sense.” The Audit Office had made an initial report to the commission, “but there were some matters we wanted to explore a little further,” he said. This had now been done and nothing illegal had been found, he said.
