Small cars rise in price
PA Wellington Cars under 1600 e.c. rose in price by 11.3 per cent in the last year, the Statistics Department says in the capital expenditure price indexes for the March 1984 quarter. The indexes relate mainly to businesses and producers for capital assets purchased, but some of the items, like
cars, could relate to the ordinary consumer. Index series showing the largest annual percentage increases between the March 1983 and March 1984 quarters were helicopters, 38.7 per cent; light fixedwing aircraft, 25.1 per cent; motor-cycles 12,3 per cent; cars less than 1600 c.c., 11.3 per cent; and electrical distribution equipment (mainly
heavy) 9.9 per cent. Television sets were among the largest price increases. The largest percentage decreases for that period were for electronic office and shop equipment —6.6 per cent, television receivers —5.4 per cent, and duplicating and photocopying machines —5.1 per cent.
