Waikato coal mining stops
PA Hamilton Coal production at Stateowned mines in Waikato was at a standstill yesterday as more than 600 mine workers struck over claims for opencast pay and work conditions for working coal grading machinery at Waipuna. The miners’ unions and State coal mines management will meet tomorrow to discuss the dispute, and work is unlikely to resume before then, industrial sources in Hamilton said yesterday.
