Matched bouts
The well-performed Kevin Rickerby (Bell’sKearns Motors) is to take part in one of the six matched bouts which will precede the international contest tonight. His opponent will be Wally Mangin, of Manawatu, who was the runner-up to the Commonwealth tournament representative, Michael Flavell (Waikato), at the last national championships. Flavell was subsequently awarded the Jamieson Belt as the most scientific senior competitor. Rickerby confirmed his potential last season with a decisive win in the Canterbury senior light middleweight final.
But Rickerby will have a formidable task against Mangin, who has beaten Fijian and United States competitors in the last few weeks.
