Queen’s Pal sharp in winding-up sprint

By

J. J. BOYLE

Queen’s Pal might be the one to spearhead a strong Canterbury assault on her former home ground at Wingatui for the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting tomorrow. She has the physique and class to cope with top weight of 57kg in the TallyHo Handicap, tomorrow’s T.A.B. trifecta race and first leg of the T.A.B. double. Her winding-up sprint for that 1600 m race was done on a firm No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. Ridden by Lyn Prendergast, Queen’s Pal completed 800 m without any great show of exertion in 47.6, rounding off a good gallop with 35.4 for the final 600.

The Wingatui horseman, Russell McAra, will ride Queen’s Pal and her stablemate, Rock and Pillar, tomorrow.

Sir Fox, a last-start winner for the Prendergast stable, will be ridden by Ali Robinson, Palvet a form runner in the first of the maiden races, will be the mount of Tane Matthews, and Paul Richards has been engaged for the North Island-owned filly . Chick Chat in the G. J. Barton Memorial.
