Addington market Store cattle sell well

Despite the approach of winter store cattle sold well at Addington market yesterday. Calves sold freely and values were considered to be at least fully firm on recent weeks.

Although large numbers of tussock-bred calves were offered the quality over all was excellent and the large gallery of buyers kept prices consistent.

Competition came mainly from Mid-Canterbury and Banks Peninsula farmers.

The best of the steer calves — these were spring born — sold to |3BO. The bulk of the steer calves fetched $272 to $3lB although odd pens sold down to $2lO.

Heifer calves sold mainly between $248 and $286 although some sold to $330. The small heifers were down to $174.

Although quality was only average the interest in the adult cattle offered was strong. A feature of the market was the line of mated heifers which made between $494 and $502. Some adult steers made to $548 but most were between $3OO and $3BO. The cattle tallies were 1727 calves and 381 adults. Sales of store cattle included.—
