Deming venue packed

Scores, perhaps hundreds, of people who wished to hear the veteran American quality control expert, Dr W. Edwards Deming, speak in Christchurch today, had to be turned away by the organisers yesterday. The 250 seats available in the booked room at the Town Hall were quickly taken by those prepared to pay $lO to hear him lecture, and because of cappingweek activities, a suitable bigger venue could not be arranged at short notice.

The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, acting as the local booking office, had calls from as far away as Nelson and for as many as six seats at a time, and the Town Hall booking office also received many calls.
