Health foods

Sir,—Janice Bremer (“The Press,” April 28) is correct. The number of health shops has escalated because those who regard healthy food and drink as important are finding these shops more and more essential. A good engine, if run on polluted fuel and oil full of sludge, will break down. When it is being overhauled, a competent mechanic notes the unsuitable fuel and oil and replaces them before making repairs. When thousands queue for medical attention, hospital beds, surgery and coffins we so-called “health cranks” consider that, like the engine, we should look to our eating habits and our food and drink to avoid health breakdowns. It would be of benefit if Janice Bremer analysed the mineral and vitamin content of every item of a typical weekly box of groceries bought by the average housewife. This test would explain why we buy our goods at health shops and organic gardens whenever possible. — Yours, etc., COLIN WIREN. Rangiora, ' April 30, 1984.
