Peace policy
Sir,—l thank your correspondent, Warren Thomson (April 26), for pointing out that the Values Party shares with Labour and Social Credit the objective of a nuclear weapons-free New Zealand. The reason that I omitted Values in my original letter was simply that I believed the Values Party had virtually disappeared from the New Zealand political scene, and I am happy to be proved wrong. Much as I admire the original Values initiatives and convictions, I must repeat the point made in my earlier letter that only the Labour Party, when in government, has taken positive steps towards the creation of a nuclear-free Pacific. I agree that Mr Lange has tended to cloud the nuclear issue in an attempt to placate the United States, but would remind Warren Thomson that the New Zealand Labour Party — unlike its Right-wing opposition — is not a one man band.—Yours, etc., R. L. PLUCK. April 26, 1984.
