‘How to become a legend’

NZPA-AP Bellevue, Washington At 70, after appearing in 70 movies since 1945, Burt Lancaster says the way to become a legend is to be picky about .what you do and keep doing it. Addressing Stanley Kramer’s film-making class at Bellevue Community College, Lancaster was asked how he became a legend. “The basic thing is the ability to last,” Lancaster said. “Some of today’s actors may become legendary but they just haven’t been around long enough yet,” he added. He also said actors should act their age and that he had rejected some scripts in which his age was inappropriate. He said one script he recently rejected called for , Mary Tyler Moore to play a 33-year-old woman. “She is a lovely woman and a fine actress,” he said, “but she’s not 33.”
